It will be nigh impossible to look on the inside of the rotor from under the car, at least without a light and mirror, and that's in my limited experience more likely to go bad than the outside of the rotor.

The rotor aren't worth machining these days because you can get a new one for a little more than it would cost in labor to turn on a lathe. My advice to you is to at least get your brakes checked, because if the grinding continues you risk ruining the seals in the disc brake calipers which will cost more if they too need to be replaced.
